Romance & Riding Boots

While I strive for self-expression and authenticity, and my internal fashion-meter strictly rejects anything ‘trendy’ (or worse, surreptitiously trendy), there are times when my romantic side complicates things. I am sincerely, hopelessly drawn to the beauty and history of riding boots, but I certainly don’t know horses well enough to make any claim on 'authentic' equestrian style. And yet, authenticity is exactly the feeling of these boots—the elegant shape of strength and softness, the supple touch and rich new smell of exquisitely handled leather (vegetable tannins, hand-dyed). They don't have to claim anything; they are something. The difference, as always, is how it's done.
