| Brand Details | In 1890 Edward Green began to make handcrafted shoes for the gentlemen in a small factory in Northampton. He soon gained the reputation for making 'the finest shoes in England for the discerning few'. The reputation was founded on the skill of his craftsmen and his belief in excellence. The philosophy simply to make the finest shoes possible remains to this day. Elegant, well fitting and robust yet with lightness and style, each pair of shoes is made individually with traditional hand craftsmanship and using only the finest quality skins. Edward Green has become discreetly famous for producing probably the finest Goodyear welted shoes. Instantly recognizable; an English look with international appeal. Edward Green shoe uppers and linings are 'clicked' or cut by hand from the finest quality calf skins to achieve a perfect match with each foot. The uppers are in turn 'closed' or stitched with the finest detailing. The plainer the style the more perfect the leather and finish must be. While black shoes are predictably correct for formal wear, brown shoes can offer a stylish flexibility. A hand polished Edward Green shoe develops a distinctive patina which will confer depth and character. The wooden form upon which the shoe is made. Edward Green lasts fit like the foot by mirroring its shape, a simple but often overlooked fact. Edward Green has developed and refined a number of lasts, some dating from as far back as the 1930's. The leather for the Edward Green soles is tanned naturally over twelve months in water, oak and mimosa bark. Leather preserved in this way is exceptionally durable yet allows the foot to 'breathe'. Alternatively rubber soles give extra grip for city pavement or for country walking. The welted sole in leather or rubber can easily be replaced. Shoes returned to the factory for refurbishment are stripped from the uppers and relasted on the original last. They are remade as a new pair. Finally, hand-polished to an antique patina, this product of English craftsmanship will look and feel even better with age. A few simple guidelines will help to lengthen the life of your shoes; A shoehorn should be used for ease of entry and to protect the backs. Change your shoes each day. After wear, insert trees immediately. If wet, wipe with a damp cloth to remove dirt or salts completely and leave to dry on their sides naturally away from heat. When dry and 'rested' apply a little wax, especially around the welt and polish with a soft cloth. |
